VENTURA, Calif. (Jan. 15, 2009) – Ventura Raceway released its 2009 schedule today, a dynamic 31-night season with tremendous variety.
The 2009 season kicks off March 14 and runs through Nov. 14. It will include motorcycle racing, open-wheel racing, modifieds and stock cars. The Ventura Racing Association competitors, who race at the track each week, will be joined on occasion by regional and national touring series.
“We have a little bit of everything this year,” said Raceway Promoter Jim Naylor. “We have some special plans, which we’ll announce soon, that will make this a very memorable year.”
The season’s biggest event, two nights of racing during the Ventura County Fair, will be held Wednesday Aug. 5 and Thursday, Aug. 6. Both nights will include a demolition derby.
The Raceway has scheduled three nights of flat track motorcycle racing, April 18, June 20 and Sept. 19. Flat track racing has historically been a tremendous draw at the Raceway.
“Race fans like variety,” Naylor said.
The popular VRA Sprint Car class anchors the VRA schedule with 23 appearances and one of those nights, April 4, will be a Bandit-VRA Grand Slam event. The Bandit-VRA Grand Slam challenges sprint car drivers from three tracks to compete once at each venue with a special point fund for the four events.
The other VRA classes include Senior Sprints, Modifieds, Sport Compacts, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs. Several classes from the United States Auto Club are scheduled, as are the National Midget Racing Association TQ Midgets, California Lightening Sprints and Dwarf Cars.
General Admission tickets for normally scheduled events cost $14. Senior and military admission is $11 and kids aged 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult purchasing a general admission ticket.
Ventura Raceway is the only successful professional sports franchise in Ventura County history and is by far the longest-tenured entity at the Ventura County Fairgrounds. More information is available at www.venturaraceway.com.
