MAY 26, 2009 --- Dave Darland will lead the USAC National Sprint cars to the East for four races June 2-6, holding a 12-point lead over Levi Jones of Avon, Ind., who recorded a significant victory last Thursday.
Jones, of Avon, Ind., piloted the Tony Stewart Racing Chevy/Bass Pro Shops Maxim/Kistler Chevy to victory in Thursday's 30-lap "Tony Hulman Classic" at the Terre Haute Action Track. The victory in the 39th running of the First National Bank race presented by Clabber Girl and Budweiser made Jones the race's second three-time winner and the first to win back-to-back "Tony Hulman Classics" at the Action Track.
Jones led all 30 laps to beat Bryan Clauson, Jesse Hockett, Jerry Coons Jr. and Chris Windom. Hunter Schuerenberg was the fastest qualifier. Tracy Hines and Jon Stanbrough escaped injury in separate flips.
Jones joins Cary Faas as the only two drivers to post three wins in one of America's most traditional short-track classics.
The Eastern Swing races are at Bechtelsville, Pa. June 2, Williams Grove, Pa. June 3, Minersville, Pa. June 4 and Mercer, Pa. June 6.
