APRIL 27, 2009 --- Dave Darland leads the USAC National Sprint Car Series to Anderson (Ind.) Speedway Saturday for the 10th "Glen Niebel Classic," a race he won in 2006. He has a 37-point lead over Jesse Hockett in the latest series standings as he seeks a fifth USAC National title, his second in the Sprint cars.
Saturday's 100-lap feature is the longest of the season in terms of laps and the defending champion is Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif., who earned his initial USAC National win in last year's classic.
Former race winners Tracy Hines (2002) and Levi Jones (2007) will compete in Tony Stewart Racing team entries, trying to enhance their third and ninth-place point rankings respectively. Eight-time "Little 500" Anderson race winner Eric Gordon won the inaugural "Glen Niebel Classic" in 2001.
Bobby East of Brownsburg, Ind., the first entrant for this year's event, holds the one-lap USAC National Sprint Car track record of 11.104 seconds.
