HAGEN WINS AT PHOENIX, BRINGS SPRINT POINT LEAD TO LAS VEGAS
|
FEBRUARY 23, 2009 --- Darren Hagen of Riverside, Calif. won Saturday night's 40-lap Sands Chevrolet ""Copper on Dirt" USAC National & Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car feature at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Ariz.
Hagen passed Kevin Swindell on lap 36 and led the final five laps in his Ark Welding/Simpson Maxim/Mopar to beat Swindell, Dave Darland, Cole Whitt and Jesse Hockett. Swindell led 22 of the 40 laps and Hagen led the rest. Jerry Coons Jr. was challenging Swindell for the lead on lap 37 when he and Swindell tangled and Coons flipped. He was uninjured.
The USAC National and Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars compete this Wednesday night at the Dirt Track at Lat Vegas Motor Speedway in the "Las Vegas Super Sprint Classic." A 30-lap feature event is slated and the USAC Mopar National and Western Midgets share the program on the 1/2-mile dirt oval.
Wednesday program marks the debut of the USAC National Sprint Cars at the LVMS dirt. The Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprints raced there in 2008, wit Blake Miller and Levi Jones the victors.
Saturday night, the two series again compete in the "Sokola Shootout" at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
