JUNE 1, 2009 --- Competitors in the 2009 USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series will try again to beat Mike Murgoitio when the series resumes this Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways in the Utah capital.
Murgoitio, of Meridian, Idaho, leads the standings after posting two wins and a second in the first three races at the 3/8-mile paved oval in Salt Lake City. He is 29 points ahead of two-time series champion Jim Waters, who has a second and a fourth in three starts so far.
Murgoitio's only defeat this year came at the hands of Kody Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif., who led all 40 laps of the May 25 race.
Ryan Burdett of West Jordan, Utah, the 2007 series titlist, ranks fourth in the current points behind Brian McClish, who was second to Murgoitio in the series opener.
