MAY 18, 2009 --- Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. and Jesse Hockett of Warsaw, Mo. are tied for the point lead in the K & N USAC Silver Crown Championship Series entering Friday night's "Hoosier Hundred" at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
Kaeding, the 2006 and 2007 series champion, won the 2009 series opener at Phoenix, Ariz., a race in which Hockett finished second after starting on the pole. They are three and nine points respectively ahead of Tony Stewart Racing teammates Levi Jones and Tracy Hines, who were third and fourth at Phoenix.
Friday's 100-mile contest at the 1-mile dirt oval also features defending series champion Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. in his bid to notch his first series win on a dirt mile track after a 2007 win at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio and last year's win on the paved Phoenix mile.
They might all be chasing Brian Tyler of Mount Pleasant, Mich. Friday. Tyler won both mile dirt races last year at Springfield and DuQuoin, Ill. After rains forced cancellation of the "Hoosier 100" for the second year in a row.
Drivers will once again be aiming at Johnny Parsons' official 1-lap track qualifying mark of 114.726 mph, set in 1995, although Paul White actually recorded a 115.485 mph lap during an abbreviated qualifying session in 2005.
