SCORA Scores at Charleston Inaugral Event
MAY 11, 2009 --- A combination of outstanding racing and a well prepared track and a good fan count made for a great night of racing at the SCORA Series beginning. Car count was low, but the racing action was great and the passing point format with heats and qualifier races was popular with drivers and fans alike. Charleston Speedway, Mike Cobble and crew did a great job and it made a pleasant night at the races.

Veteran Craig Budde and his Ford powered sprinter started the evening out by passing Ray Kenens in the First Heat coming out of turn four to the checkered flag. Craig went over the first turn banking in his qualifier. The top of the track became his fast part of the track. Kenens again led the field the first half of the Feature, but Budde starting sixth drove like a man on a mission and went around his competitors on the outside of the banked corners and finally got by Kenens. The Feature was very competitive with J. T. Stapp in the Robinson Sprinter and Dusty Wright also passing Kenens and Alex Coonan in the Schaibley Sprinter was coming on strong at the end of the race.

Tony Sessions of the Fort Wayne area made the long tow and won the First Heat race. His traveling partner, Jamie Frederickson, blew the engine in his truck and was not able to reach the track. Sessions luck did not stay with him and he had a rough times in his qualifier and the Feature. The Qualifier races were outstanding with Dusty Wright winning the first over Adam Beliles and the Second Qualifier was won by J. T. Stapp over Steve Thomas.

The merchandise draw at the drivers meeting was a hit with the racers. Steve Thomas got the Hoosier DT3 tire and Alex Pettas got the SCORA gas money. Other items were given by VP Fuel Dist. Terre Haute and Mike's Motor Company of Clinton, Indiana. The Bell Helmet Compay gave a gift certificate for the fourth place finisher in the Feature, that was Ray Kenens.

SCORA is looking forward two weeks when they will race at Clay County Speedway, Flora, Illinois on Saturday May 23. We look forward to another good night of racing.
