SCORA Opens First Season
|
May 4, 2009 --- The SCORA Sprint Car Series opens their 2009 season at the Charleston Speedway, Charleston, Illinois on Saturday May ninth.
This is the beginning of a twenty-three race schedule put together by Sam Stockon Sr.of Terre Haute, Indiana. Stockon a retired veteran driver and founder of the Midwest Sprint Car Series is working on putting together this steel block Sprint Car Series. Official Push Trucks are part of the Series group and John Gurley is the Series announcer and will add color to the programs.
The first race has pre-entries and has a mixture of veterans and younger drivers. The veterans are Al Thomas, Dave Peperak, Ray Kenens. Young guns are Alex Coonan, Dusty Wright, Adam Beliles, Alex Pettas. Other drivers of note are J. T. Stapp, Craig Budde, Jamie Frederickson, Dave Scott, Jake Simmons, Steve Thomas and others.
Two of the major Series sponsors are Hoosier Tire Midwest and the Bell Helmet Company. J & J Performance Powder Coating will handle the "Rookie of the Year Award". Bill's Trophies will sponsor trophies and plaques. A plaque will go to the "Harder Charger Driver" each race to the driver that passes the most positions in the feature. Heats and Qualifier races will have passing points which will determine the features lineups with an inversion draw for the feature. Feature winners can start no better than tenth their next feature race.
