Santa Maria, CA 6-3-09...*Racing Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway are West Coast 360 Sprint Cars, East vs. West Super Streets, MMI Factory Stocks, and Toste Grading & Paving Mini Stocks. It will also be "Union Night" at the Speedway with discounts for union members.
*Peter Murphy, of Clovis, extended his points lead over Bakersfield's Rusty Carlile to 67 after his second local feature win of the season May 23. Third place Justyne Hamblin, of Hanford, trails the leader by 93 points, followed by Hanford's Michael Faccinto (-99) and Kerman's Davey Pombo (-101).
*Santa Maria's Tim Randolph had everything his own way May 23 in the East vs. West Series, setting fast time and then winning a heat race and the main event. Lonnie Welch, of Bakersfield, is keeping Randolph in sight, 34 markers out of the lead in second. Nick Sylvester, of Bakersfield, is 72 points behind, with Nipomo's Kyle Heckman (-91) and Santa Maria's Toby Randolph (-98), fourth and fifth.
*Dale Sylvester, of Arroyo Grande, leads the Factory Stock standings by a single point over Tim Bennett and 4 points over Michael Frazier, both of Santa Maria. Lompoc's Brandon Brickey, Sr. is 1 point behind Frazier, and it's another point back to fifth place Matt Marchiando of Goleta.
*Mini Stock point leader Tom Grzincic, of Atascadero, has a 17 point advantage over Santa Maria's Rob Gilbertson after being awarded last weekend's main event victory when Nipomo's Korban Ensign failed a post race compression test, disqualifying him from the win. Jeremy Heroux, of Nipomo, is third, 2 points behind Gilbertson, and Nipomo's Dustin Ensign and Santa Barbara's Ben Caswell are tied for fourth, 48 points out of first.
*Gates for Saturday night's event will open at 3:00 p.m., with qualifying at 5:00 p.m. and racing at 6:00 p.m. Tickets will cost: $14.00 for adults ($7.00 with a union card), $12.00 for seniors & military ($6.00 with a union card), $5.00 for children 6 to 12, five and under free. The Speedway is located 1/4-mile north of the 101/166 interchange on Hutton Road.
