Placerville drivers will be lovin’ it; McDonald’s joins weekly contingency awards

(MAY 3, 2009 - PLACERVILLE, CA) – The management of ASA Racing Sanctioned Placerville Speedway is proud to announce McDonald’s as a new contingency sponsor for the 2009 Red Hawk Casino Championship Series at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. The popular fast food restaurant that has been in operation since 1940 will present a weekly hardcharger award to each of Placerville Speedway’s four weekly divisions.

“The local community is really showing its true colors and its interest in supporting El Dorado County’s only professional spectator sport,” said Bill Sullivan of Handy Racing Promotions who operate Placerville Speedway. “We’re excited to have McDonald’s join our weekly contingency program and there is no doubt our drivers will be lovin’ it.”

McDonald’s Corporation is the world’s largest chain of fast food restaurants, serving nearly 47 million customers daily. El Dorado County is home to four McDonald’s locations with stores in downtown Placerville, eastern Placerville, Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills.

Beginning this Saturday, May 9, McDonald’s will sponsor the weekly feature event Hardcharger Award at Placerville Speedway for each of the four divisions with a minimum of $25 in gift certificates to assist with feeding the crew or family on their way home from the races or during the week.

What is a Hardcharger? The Hardcharger of a feature event is the driver who gains the most positions during the race. This award is determined at the conclusion of the night by comparing the starting line up with the official finishing order of each race. False starts, pre-race penalties and restarts are excluded from the process of determining the winner each week.

“It’s nice to see the businesses that benefit from our drivers and fans traveling into the area turn around and give back to the sport,” added Sullivan. “In these current economic times we know it’s tough to give away a lot of product. At the same time, its tough for these race teams to make ends meet each week and they are so appreciative of everything we can offer. We’re excited about McDonald’s coming aboard and this will make it fun for the fans to watch each week as well.”

In addition to the weekly “McDonald’s Hardcharger Award,” where McDonald’s will award some $2,000 in prizes throughout the year, McDonald’s wishes to participate in various special events during the year, including special sponsorships of fan activities and various race car displays throughout the year. The partnership will assist with the promotion of area auto racing, which has been a part of El Dorado County since 1965.

McDonalds joins a number of area businesses who support the contingency program at Placerville Speedway. Food 4 Less and Nugget Markets have returned for their fourth consecutive year at the speedway to award random drivers and race fans with more than $3,000 in free groceries during the season. Carl’s Jr. recently stepped in to sponsor the weekly victory lane celebration for each of the four divisions. The Cold Springs Community Church continues its weekly sponsorship of the weekly Hard Luck Award at Placerville Speedway.

Placerville Speedway’s title sponsor is the Red Hawk Casino located in Placerville just east of the speedway.. Associate sponsors for the season include Hoosier Racing Tires, Coors Light and Coca Cola. The track is managed by Handy Racing Promotions who also operates Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, the traveling Golden State Challenge Sprint Car Series and the Civil War Sprint Car Series.

Area businesses wishing to become involved with Placerville Speedway can do so by contacting the track office at (916) 969-7484 or emailing to bsullivan@placervillespeedway.com.

The next event at Placerville Speedway will be Saturday, May 9 when championship point racing resumes. Special upcoming events include an addition to the 2009 racing schedule on June 3 when Placerville Speedway presents the Civil War Sprint Car Series for the return of “Wild Winged Wednesday.” This event will be a make up date for one of two recent Civil War Series events that were cancelled due to weather.
