|
(MARCH 25, 2009, PERRIS, CA) This Saturday night, March 28th, Perris Auto Speedway will kick off its annual Power of Purple Campaign for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The goal is to raise $10,000.00 dollars over the next month to help fight the dreaded disease. Saturday’s racing program will feature the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars, California Lightning Sprint Cars, USAC Ford Focus Midgets and Junior Focus Midgets. The first 200 fans through the gates will receive free Power of Purple Thunder Sticks courtesy of the Relay for Life and the first 50 adult fans through the gates will receive a free Perris Auto Speedway cap courtesy of Sunoco and The PAS. Spectator gates will open at 4:00 PM with the first race will be at 6:00 PM.
This will be the sixth straight year The PAS has held this very special fund raiser and each year it has raised $10,000.00. “The Relay for Life has a very special place in all of out hearts,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said on Tuesday. “We want to do our part to help fight cancer and we will do it again starting this Saturday. Each year through the generosity of our great fans, the drivers, crews, officials and our sponsors, we have raised a minimum of $10,000.00 and we will do it once again in 2009. We want to thank everyone who has helped us with this important fund whether they have donated .10c or hundreds of dollars. It all helps.”
Starting this Saturday, there will be collection areas around the racetrack and at intermission the drivers will be coming into the stands to collect donations from the fans.
The Relay for Life began in 1985 at the University of Puget Sound when Dr. Gordon Klatt walked and ran solo around a track and raised $27,000.00. Since then the Relay for Life has awarded well more than $2.4 billion in grants for cancer research and has more than two million dedicated volunteers nationwide.
Saturday’s racing action will include qualifying, heats, a B main and 30 lap A main for the USAC/CR Sprint Cars. All of the other divisions will include heats and A main events (possible B main event as well where applicable).
Between 4:00 and 5:00 PM, all fans can purchase two for the price of one food items. This offer does not include drinks or value menu items.
