LEBANON, Ore. - This weekend in Oregon the NorthWest Wingless Tour will holds its first "Summer Shootout Series" with non-wing dirt 360 sprint car and midget car races at Willamette Speedway on Friday night and Cottage Grove Speedway on Saturday night.
Points will be tallied in each division over the two nights of action. Thanks to many sponsors who have come aboard, the NWWT will be awarding bonus money to the top five point scorers in each division. A hard charger award, $150 for sprint cars and $100 for the midgets, will be paid each night to the driver who improves the most positions in the main event. The top point scorer in the sprint car division will earn a cool $500 for his or her effort.
Friday's show will be the NorthWest Wingless Tour's first official event at Willamette Speedway. Several teams competiting in the NWWT this season took part in last September's open competition wingless show at Willamette. Roger Crockett won the sprint car main event and Jeff Bell won the midget car feature in a Ford Focus entry. Friday's event is the first of two scheduled visits to Willamette Speedway for the NorthWest Wingless Tour in 2009.
Having raced both its prior races at Cottage Grove Speedway, the NWWT will make its third visit to the popular track on Saturday for the second and final night of the Summer Shootout Series. Kyler Barraza won both NWWT sprint car main events on April 25th and May 23rd and Evan Margeson won the NWWT midget division's debut at the same May show.
Sponsors who have come aboard to support the NorthWest Wingless Tour are Bridgetown Electric, Competition Motorsports, Tire Factory or Oregon, Herz Precision Parts, Chapman Auto, Maxline Custom Cases, R.G.C. Enterprises and JS Perrot Company. Anyone else who is interested in becoming a sponsor for the NWWT Summer Shootout Series can contact Keith Steenslid at btelectric@qwestoffice.net or Andrew Kunas at al_kunas@msn.com.
Friday at Willamette Speedway, qualifying is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with racing starting at about 7:00 p.m. The NWWT will share the card with the track's sportsman stocks and classic stocks. Saturday's program at Cottage Grove has qualifying at 5:30 p.m. with racing scheduled to begin around 6:45 p.m. The local winged 360 sprint cars and limited sprint cars will also be on the card that night.
