NCMA Sprints - Madera Speedway
Madera, CA - June 13, 2009
Rob Hammond should be making his home town of Morgan Hill quite proud this
season as he has figured out his Hale Lumber #17H sprinter and achieved his
second victory of the season. Other drivers had better beware as he has done
this at both Roseville and Madera. The next conquest will be the pavement of the
New Stockton 99 Raceway on July 3rd.
David Goodwill and Jimmy Riddell were so close in qualifying until the stats
came out it was hard to determine from the go-rounds on track that Goodwill was
quickest tonight. Hammond took third quick. Pat Ariaz was fourth and Burt
Siverling is getting used to his reworked sprint car and qualified fifth.
Qualifying times are very important as they set up the evening’s racing.
The Dash had Ariaz, the Ag Teacher from Manteca’s Sierra High on the pole.
Hammond on the outside, Riddell right behind Ariaz and Napa Auto Parts 3G of
Goodwill behind Hammond. Riddell looking like the rocket man grabbed the lead
and took it home for the win. Hammond was right behind him.
David Burchett of Tracy took the checkers for the first heat and Hammond grabbed
the checkers for the second heat. Time for the 30 lap main event.
Modesto’s racing farmer, Ed Amador held the pole and Burchett in his Tracy
Awards & Embroidery #77B sat shotgun to bring the NCMA Sprints to the green
on a great late spring evening. Burchett to the lead for the first lap and held
it until a racing incident involving Ariaz and Riddell. Both restarted in the
back and racing was on. Burchett still had the lead but Hammond and Goodwill
were right behind him. About twelve laps in, Hammond had played his hand and
ended up in the lead. Burchett was still hanging in holding second; Goodwill and
Riddell were fighting for third. Hammond was car lengths ahead of the pack. At
the end, with his Riddell Enterprises #19 Jim Riddell was still dogging Goodwill
but to no avail. Goodwill finished second and in his first complete race with
NCMA Sprints, he finished third. Not a bad evening for him! Burchett was fourth
and Ariaz filled the five spot.
