NCMA Sprints - Madera Speedway
Madera, CA - May 9, 2009
David Goodwill seems to be the first of NCMA Sprints new wide body drivers to have a handle on the track so far. He won the second of two pavement outings for 2009. In fact he made a clean sweep of the evening! NCMA was rained out at the New Stockton 99 Speedway, and were anxious to go racing. Madera Speedway was up tonight and had a beautiful evening for it.
Ed Amador’s flaming red ride was fast time for the night with Pat Ariaz only a few seconds behind for second. Denny Burrell who seems to be coming into his own this season qualified third and Goodwill was fourth quick. This was the Trophy Dash. Goodwill from Napa and Ripon’s Burrell were the front row, with Ariaz and E. Amador right behind them. In four short, quick laps, Goodwill and Ariaz took first and second. Burrell and Amador finished third and fourth.
Heats were run this evening. The first had Tracy’s David Burchett take the checkered with Steve Amador of Patterson second. Burt Siverling of Concord garnered third after having a nasty outing the first night of racing.
Heat #2 brought Goodwill to the finish in first. Woodland’s Gary Koster was second and Rob “Hot Rod” Hammond from Morgan Hill held the third spot.
The Thirty Lap Main Event got off to a ground pounding start as Burchett and S. Amador brought the pack around for the green. Manteca’s Jeff Burrows and Siverling were second row and Koster rounded out the top five go getters. Both Manteca drivers, Ariaz and Burrows, were out before the first lap with mechanical problems. A break caliper for Ariaz and gear problems for Burrows. A Few more laps in and Marvin Mitchell pulled off the track. With only a caution thrown in the 30 laps, Goodwill who started towards the back of the pack just picked them off one by one and ended up number one. Meanwhile, back in the chase, E. Amador and Koster were giving the crowd what they enjoy seeing two racers going back and forth looking for the second spot. After hard work and perseverance E. Amador was second, Koster was third. Burrell started eighth and finished fourth and fifth to run past the checkered flag was Burchett.
NCMA Sprints will be making their first outing to the asphalt of All American Speedway, Roseville next Saturday night, May 16.
