MSCS DRIVERS GO FOR $3,000 AT HAUBSTADT SUNDAY
|
Haubstadt, IN. (May 21, 2009) The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will return to Tri-State Speedway at Haubstadt, IN, for the next race on the 2009 schedule. It will mark the second appearance of the season there for the non-wing 410 sprint cars that compete with the series. This special Memorial Day weekend Event will be on Sunday evening May 24th with hot laps at 6:30 P.M. and racing to follow at 7:30 P.M. The 30 lap feature will pay $3,000 to win.
That feature promises to be a classic like so many in the past. On Memorial Day weekends all across Indiana and the Midwest race fans have always enjoyed the added sounds and sights associated with automobile racing. From the Brickyard at Indy to the dirt tracks like the quarter mile at Haubstadt, competition and the quest for a victory continually add new pages to the record book.
At Haubstadt the MSCS Sprinters have been on the Memorial Day race card since 2004. One race was rained out. The other four produced four different winners. Last year Jon Stanbrough won. Prior to that Daron Clayton, Brandon Petty, and Kevin Briscoe claimed victories.
So far this year two MSCS races have been run. Levi Jones took the opener at Tri-State. Chris Windom of Canton, IL, won the next week at Florence Speedway. It is Windom who now leads the points. That lead is based on a terrific start to the season which includes a second place feature finish as well as the win. He has won his qualifying heat both nights MSCS has raced. He has a near perfect season going. Windom is driving a car owned by Preston Windom and raced under the watchful eye of crew chief Jeff Walker.
Another early mover this season has been two time point champion Kyle Cummins. The Princeton, IN, driver is already second in this year's points. He has moved up quickly from eighth on the initial season list of leading drivers. He is behind the wheel of a new car which was still in the works late in the afternoon of the season opening race. Car and driver arrived just minutes ahead of the drivers meeting and warm-ups. It was good enough for a top ten finish!
The current MSCS driver roster has a very youthful look. The average age of the top five drivers in the points standings is just 18 years old. The top ten drivers check in at an average age of 22. Rookie Chase Briscoe who is currently tenth in points is the
youngest at 14! Interest in racing with the series amongst prospective rookies is growing each week. The Rookie of the Year is sponsored by Gross Enterprises of Washington, IN.
The MSCS Sprints - Tri-State Speedway - A perfect combination!
