TRI-STATE SPEEDWAY NOW FIRST STOP ON '09 TOUR
A BUSY SIX WEEKS LIES AHEAD!
|
Haubstadt, IN. (May 4, 2009) Two grand is the top prize which awaits the winner of this Saturday night's sprint car feature at Tri-State Speedway. The enduring quarter mile facility at Haubstadt, IN,
has inherited the season opener for the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series after Mother Nature intervened forcing the postponement of
the Don Smith Classic at Terre Haute until June 13th. Racing teams following the series can now focus on the May 9th event at Tri-State
Speedway as the kickoff for an exciting season planned for 2009.
Push off time Saturday evening for the sprint car drivers to warm their engines and hot lap is planned for 6 o'clock. The MSCS
sprinters do not qualify. Heat races are set to get underway by 7:30 P.M.. The UMP Open Wheel Modified class will also be on this race
card. The two classes of cars complement each other very well providing lots of action at every turn.
It is about to get really busy on the MSCS circuit! In the month of May the series will also travel to Florence Speedway in
Union, KY, on the 16th and then return to Tri-State Speedway on Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. With the Terre Haute race now in
June the series will also be running 3 times during the first two weekends of June beginning with the Morgan County Speedway appearance
on Friday June 5th. The annual KISS - MSCS contest on the high banks at Haubstadt is set for Saturday of that very weekend. This is the
first back to back racing weekend of the season.
The race this Saturday night will provide race fans with the first opportunity to see the MSCS drivers in action as a group.
Several drivers have had an opportunity to test equipment and compete in some unsanctioned events at some of the tracks here in the Midwest
that run sprint cars and have already had their openers. The event at Haubstadt will provide race fans with a real indication of how
exciting this season is going to be. The first points leader of the season will emerge from the list of contenders on this night. The
points chase will be on and favorites established. Hoosier Tire Midwest continues as the primary sponsor for the series and that
support provides for the season points fund.
In the nine seasons that MSCS has been in operation this is only the third time that the Tri-State Speedway has hosted the season
opening race for the Midwest Sprint Car Series. It is the month of May in Indiana and time to go racing! As the series prepares to take
the green flag it is fitting to pay tribute to all the former MSCS Champions. Those who have led the way are Kyle Cummins (2007 &
2008), Alex Shanks (2004, 2005, & 2006), Hud Cone (2003), Mitch Wissmiller (2002), Donnie Gentry (2001), and Chase Stockon (in the
2004 Support Series). All six MSCS champions competed with the
series in 2008. Will another name be added to the list of champions this year? Or will a former champion add yet another title to an
already illustrious career?
