American Sprint Car Series, Canyon Regional, awards banquet held January 24 in Phoenix

JANUARY 25, 2009 --- The American Sprint Car Series, Canyon Regional, was held Saturday night at the Dobson Ranch Golf Club with over 100 drivers, owners and fans in attendance.
For the fourth straight year Jeremy Sherman took top honors for the 2008 season which included races at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, Central Arizona Raceway in Casa Grande and USA Speedway in Tucson. Sherman scored 14 main event wins and he shared $7500 plus contingencies with his car owner Fred Bryan. A total of just over $40,000 in prize money and contingences was awarded to the top ten owners and drivers plus the Rookie of the Year, Most Improved Driver and Hard Luck award.
Charles Davis, Jr finished second in points and his car owner, Jim Massey also took second place honors. The rest of the top ten, in order were Nathan High (driver) and Robbie Allen (owner); Mike Martin (owner and driver); R.J. Johnson (driver) and Bobby Martin (owner); Andy Reindbold (owner, driver); Mike Leslie (driver), Kevin Montgomery (owner); Josh Pelkey (driver), Gary Williams (owner); Jeremy Reagles (driver), Dan Reagles (owner); Steve Tellas (owner, driver)
Tellas was rookie of the year, Reinbold was named most improved driver and Steve Stroud of the Parker Store was chosen as sportsman of the year.
Gayle Davis, wife of Charles Davis, Jr., received the Rick McDonald Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to motorsports.
The ASCS will start their 2009 season at Manzanita Speedway on March 7 as they share the one third mile track with midgets and mini sprints.
