Martin a Rocket at Hollywood Hills
|
San Felipe, NM (April 25th, 2009) – Mike Martin broke into victory lane winning the first NMMRA feature in 2009 on a very fast Hollywood Hills Speedway. With assistance from ace sprint car mechanic, Mickey Meyer, Martin was able to hold off a fierce field of 27 sprint cars as he made his way to victory lane.
Martin took the point on lap 3 from his 5th place starting position, showing the way around the very fast 3/8 mile clay oval. Ronnie Smith challenged Martin for several laps until lapped traffic ended his night and his shot at victory. The young gun duo of Colt Treharn and 2008 ASCS Rocky Mountain Champion Derrik Ortega continued to put the pressure on Martin for the remaining laps. Martin held on to claim victory and the $1000 top prize. Treharn and Ortega were followed by Scott Box and Jesse Baker making up the top five in a very competitive sprint car feature.
Mike Ford Jr. charged to victory in the 15 lap street stock feature event. Ford battled door to door with Cameron Martin edging out the win by just a few feet. Glenn Jaramillo, Lalo Chavez and Kenny Ford filled in the remaining positions earning top five honors.
Kenny Brewer led a super competitive field of mini sprints across the finish line, making a clean sweep for the night. Brewer held off top contenders Mike Brewer and Tim West for his first victory of 2009.
Mike Sullivan earned his second podium finish of 2009 taking first place honors in the Cruisers with Greg Nidel and Delbert Chavez filling in the top three.
