MILLER WINS SECOND "SALUTE TO INDY"
By Robert Mayson
Perris, Calif…(May 23, 2009) Blake Miller, Yorba Linda, Calif., won Saturday night's 30-lap Lucas Oil USAC/CRA sprint car race at the Perris Auto Speedway. Miller's impressive win driving the Jeff Gardner / Roy Miller Freightlines No. 93 Sled made him the sixth different winner in as many races this season.

Despite his numerous fast times and top-five finishes at the PAS, Miller's win marked the first time since the 2007 "Salute to Indy", that he has driven into victory lane at Perris.

"I wish we could run a Salute to Indy every week. This is just my second win at Perris and they've both come at this race which is great because I got to pour milk on people," said Miller, who entered the evening third in series points.

"It's always nice to get points and win races, but it's important to be consistent. Tonight, we got the job done and didn't tear anything up. We'll just keep plugging away and hopefully we'll be at the top of that ladder at the end of the season."

Miller shared the front row with Manhattan Beach, California driver Garrett Hansen. Hansen won the drag race to the first turn at the start and slid his M-M Motorsports / Roy Miller Freightlines No. 7 Maxim ahead of Miller.

Greg Bragg, Visalia, Calif., took advantage of a lap-two restart and put his Tom & Laurie Sertich / Huntington Beach Glass No. 92 Buckley past Miller exiting turn-two. Bragg made the most of another restart two laps later, grabbing the lead from Hansen exiting turn-four.

Miller seemed to find his rhythm on lap-six after a thrilling three-abreast pass using the turn-two cushion put him back into the second po sition. Leaning hard on the turn-two cushion once again, Miller blasted his way around Hansen and into the lead three laps later.

Once out front, Miller controlled the remainder of the race and was only slowed by a few later caution flags. Bragg held back Hansen for the runner-up spot to earn his best career USAC/CRA finish.

David Cardey, Riverside, Calif., started the race in seventh before steering his Glenn Crossno / ITI Performance No. 38 Viper to a fourth-place finish. Yorba Linda California's Rip Williams won "Hard-Charger" honors after driving his John Jory Corporation / Weld Wheels No. 3 Maxim from 16th to fifth. Williams will travel to Knoxville, Iowa next week where he will formally be inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. Fast qualifier Mike Spencer finished seventh, one spot behind Danny Sheridan.
