Commentary
The Checked Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) returned to Charlotte County
Motorsports Park on Saturday May 2, 2009 with 17 cars to run two heat races and
a 30 lap feature race.
Geoff Styner in the 15JR had the pole for the start of the first heat race
with Stan Butler in the 5W car on the outside. Stan made the better start and
took the race lead, staying out in front to win the heat. The second heat saw
the 37 driven by Jason Bradford on the pole with Amanda Ferguson in the 20 car
on the outside. Amanda made a good start and took the race lead. She was
challenged throughout the race by Scott Adema in the 67 car and on lap three he
made a passing move but Amanda was able to hold the line and retake the lead,
going on to win the heat.
Jason Bradford in the 37 car held the pole for the start of the feature race
with the 47 of Mike Koss on the outside. The cars got lined up and then made a 4
wide parade lap to salute the fans before getting back in line to start the
race. The track went green and it was the 5W driven by Stan Butler that came out
in the lead after starting in fourth position. The 6X pulled into the infield in
lap 6 by which time the race was running at a furious pace with the leaders
working through the back markers. The one and only caution of the race was on
lap 10 when Amanda Ferguson got loose and spun on the front straightaway. She
was pushed back off and the cars got ready to go back to racing, with Stan
Butler in the lead and Keith Butler in the 19 car was behind having worked his
way up to second after starting in 9th place. Robert Parrow retired the 7 car to
the infield on lap 10. Stan was able to hold off Keith for one more lap but on
lap 11, Keith found a hole and made the pass to take the lead. Robby Hackett
retired the 21A to the infield on lap 15, followed by Frank Hurst in the 6F on
lap 21. A dominant Keith Butler had built up a half lap lead as the cars weaved
through the lapped cars and he claimed his fifth consecutive win of the season.
Stan Butler in the 5W finished in second place, followed by the 67 of Scott
Adema and the 51 of Mark Gimmler, with Gary Gimmler in the 29 car rounding out
the top 5.
The staff and racers of the CFSS would like to thank everyone for their
support and hope to see you at the next race which will be at New Smyrna
Speedway on June 6th.
