BROWN’S SPRINT CAR WIN CAPS WILD NIGHT AT VENTURA |

VENTURA, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2008) – Norco’s Tyler Brown held off a persistent Cory Kruseman to win the Lucas Oil USAC CRA Sprint Car race and two other drivers clinched championships during a wild night of racing at Ventura Raceway Saturday. Brian Saxton (Mentone) won the VRA Pro Dwarf Car championship and Alex Bowman clinched the title in the USAC California Ford Focus Dirt Series. The feature race winners at Ventura included Henry Clark (Orange) in the Ford Focus Dirt Series, Jake Swanson (Anaheim) in the VRA Junior Focus Midgets, Saxton won his feature race, Ventura’s Riley Helland won the VRA Junior Midget main event. Brown and Kruseman spent much of the Sprint Car feature fighting for the lead. Brown led from the beginning of the sprint car race. He held off Ventura regular Chris Wakim in the early laps before Kruseman (Ventura) slipped into the second spot on the tenth lap. Kruseman challenged Brown for the lead after several restarts but Brown stayed ahead each time. “You had to be up on the cushion,” Brown said after the race. “There just wasn’t any (traction) down low.” It was Brown’s first sprint car win at Ventura. Kruseman said, “He never made any real mistakes. We were able to close the gap a little bit late (in the race), but he was the class of the field.” Bowman (Tucson) finished second in his feature race and gathered enough points to lock the title away. Saxton led his race from the beginning. Sprint car driver Rob Bunker spun, flipped and crashed during his qualification run and was transported to Ventura’s Community Memorial Hospital. Michael Burba (Cypress) crashed into the retaining wall on the outside of turn one during the Ford Focus feature race. He was also transported to CMH.
