          | KIRKPATRICK CHARGES
THROUGH FIELD FOR VENTURA WINby Lee Elder
 |
          | VENTURA, Calif. (March 22, 2008) – N\ipomo driver Kenny
Kirkpatrick charged from his 12th-place starting position to win the
IMCA Modified main event at Ventura Raceway. It was the first win at
            Ventura for Kirkpatrick.
Other winners included Mike Spencer in Ventura Racing Association
Sprint Cars, Joel Chavez (Santa Paula) in the VRA Sport Compacts,
Brian Saxton (Mentone) in VRA Pro Dwarf Cars and Jim Scribellito (El
Cajon) in the VRA Senior Dwarf cars. The youth division winners were
Michaela Stanton (Camarillo) in the VRA Junior Midgets, Cole Wakim
(Simi Valley) in the Mini Dwarf Pistons and Devin McCree (Ventura)
            in the Mini Dwarf Superchargers.

Kirkpatrick didn’t know where to steer his racecar after winning
the event, but he handled the heavy racing traffic deftly. Once he
got the lead, Kirkpatrick was not caught.

“I knew I had to hit my marks and get through the traffic,” he
            said.

Kirkpatrick normally races at Santa Maria Speedway. He entered the
Ventura race because his home track’s season has not started yet.
He finished fourth in Santa Maria’s IMCA Modified standings in
            2007.

The event drew a season-high 134 cars to the Ventura oval.
