FIRST NIGHT OF SEASON IS NIGHT OF FIRSTS AT VENTURA RACEWAY |

VENTURA, Calif. (March 8, 2008) Ventura Raceway opened its 2008 racing season with a night of firsts as John Nock and Cole Wakim earned the first main event victories of their careers. Nock (of Newhall) won the Ventura Racing Association Sprint Car feature and Wakim (Simi Valley) won the in VRA Mini Dwarf -- Pistons. Other winners included Rick Lewis (Oxnard) in the VRA Mini Dwarf -- Super Chargers, John Butcher (Santa Barbara) in VRA Junior Midgets, Richard Denman (Coalinga) in the IMCA Modifieds, Jim Scribellito (El Cajon) in the VRA Senior Dwarfs and Brian Saxton (Mentone) in the VRA Pro Dwarfs. Nock doggedly chased the leaders during the first 15 laps of the 30-lap Sprint Car feature, then held off several challenges after taking the lead near the end. I cant believe it, Nock said later. It came out of nowhere. Everything came to us. The season opener attracted 118 cars and the largest opening-night crowd in recent memory. Main event results from Ventura Raceway.
