OXNARD, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2008) – Ventura Raceway and D’Angelos Automotive
and Industrial Finishes announced today a special agreement under which
D’Angelos will sponsor a special series of races at the track.
The D’Angelos Sprint Car Shootout will be a three-race series for Ventura
Racing Association sprint car teams. The program will award $2,000 to the winner
of each race and an additional $500 for the top points-earner during the three
races.
“This is tremendous news for our racers,” said Raceway promoter Jim
Naylor. “It means extra money in the prize purse. D’Angelos has been part of
Ventura Raceway for about 20 years and now they have their own series.”
The D’Angelos Sprint Car Shootout will be part of the regularly scheduled
VRA programs of April 26, August 30 and Oct. 18.
“We know that Jim Naylor has a positive thing going out there and this is a
great way to be a part of it,” said Mark DeAngelo. “A lot of our clients are
racing-oriented. We’re going to contribute to the purse and that’s going to
draw a lot of drivers.”
Naylor said nearly one hundred sprint car drivers earned VRA points in 2007
and he predicted there will be more in 2008.
“This announcement proves something I’ve always believed,” Naylor said.
“Any time you increase the participation of the local automotive sector,
especially a company of the caliber of D’Angelos, in the operation of a
raceway, the results are good for the track, the drivers and the fans.”
D’Angelo said his company is a major distributor for Dupont, which has a
major investment in racing.
D’Angelos Automotive and Industrial Finishes is based in Oxnard, but has
stores and warehouses in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. The company
was founded in 1956 and remains family-owned. More information is available at
