OXNARD, Calif. (Feb 5, 2008) – Ventura Raceway announced today that the track
has teamed with All Coast Construction to create a season-within-a-season for
teams that race sprint cars at the track.
The All Coast 3-2-1 Challenge, a three-race series with its own points
system, will allow Ventura Racing Association members to race for special prizes
and extra money.
“I’ve always wanted to be able to do this,” said Raceway promoter Jim
Naylor. “This kind of program gets the racers and our fans fired up and that
builds excitement.”
The first two events in the series will pay $2,000 to the winner. The final
installment in the series will pay $3,000 to the winner, $2,000 to the runner-up
and $1,000 to third place. The top point-getter in the special series will win
an additional $1,000.
“I’m excited about increasing the purse for the drivers,” said All
Coast’s Mike Grosswendt. “We have a successful business based in eastern
Ventura County and we believe in the community. I have a family and the Raceway
is a great place to take your family on a Saturday night.”
All Coast Construction also sponsors the VRA sprint car driven by Chris Wakim.
“On the final night, the winner could win $4,000,” said Grosswendt.
“That’s pretty nice.”
Naylor said he hopes the special series will give teams that get off to a
slow start in 2008 a chance to win a championship. The dates for the first two
races in the series will be determined later, but Naylor expects them to be
scheduled in the early and middle portions of the season. The final race of the
series will be held on the final night of the 2008 season.
“There is more to come,” Naylor promised. “This could be the most
memorable season in the history of Ventura Raceway.”
