SHUMAN DOMINATES VICTORVILLE SPRINT RACE
By Robert Mayson

Victorville, CA…Casey Shuman, Indianapolis, IN, scored the biggest win of his sprint car car Saturday night at Victorville Auto Raceway. Driving the Rex Foster Allstate Utility Construction No. 32 Maxim, Shuman turned the fastest lap in time trials and went on to led all 27-laps of the curfew-shorten feature, earning himself a $5,000.00 payday.

Shuman started on the outside of the front row next to Blake Miller. Heading into the event, Miller had been to Victorville’s victory lane during each of his last three visits. Miller and his Jeff Gardner / Roy Miller Freightlines No. 93 would have to settle for third on this night coming across the finish line behind the Kittle Plumbing / Pace Lighting No. 18 Stinger driven by Danny Sheridan.

Tyler Brown started sixth before steering the Nadine Gardner / Goodwine Glass No. 96 Chalk to a fourth-place finish. Garrett Hansen somehow survived an incident during the race where he was the middle of a spectacular double-flip involving Jimmy Crawford and Alan Ballard. Both Crawford and Ballard were able to walk away from their battered mounts, while Hansen went on to give his Mark Preistley / Roy Miller Freightlines No. 7 Bullet a top-five finish.

Promoters Cary Faas and Jack Gardner, Jr. added a new twist for their latest event, giving the car on the pole first option to tag the 22-car field and vie for a $20,000 first-prize. Miller and Shuman each declined, giving Josh Ford an opportunity to accept the challenge. Ford was unable to reach the front in his Keith Ford / V-Mac No. 73, but did earn Hard-Charger honors with his run to the ninth position.

The feature race was marred by an early-lap accident involving Don Gansen and Jordan Hermanader. Hermansader was not hurt, unfortunately Gansen was not so lucky had to be transported to a local hospital after suffering knee and leg injuires.
