JUNE 2, 2008 --- This week’s “Eastern Tour” will be pivotal for those drivers competing for USAC’s National Sprint Car Championship, with four races slated in five nights.
Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.; hosts Tuesday night’s event, where defending series champion Levi Jones will try to protect his 20-point lead over Brady Bacon. Cole Whitt, Tracy Hines and Darren Hagen are also within one-race reach of Jones entering Grandview’s fourth-ever USAC race. Jones won the only previous USAC Sprint race there last year.
Williams Grove (Pa.) Speedway is Wednesday night’s destination. The “Grove” will present its first USAC Sprint race in 12 years as Billy Pauch is expected to return to the track where he won the USAC race in 1996. The race marks USAC’s 49th appearance at Williams Grove, the 32nd time for Sprint cars, and the list of past winners reads like a who’s-who of the sport.
Thursday night’s venue is Big Diamond Raceway in Minersville, Pa., which also hosted its first USAC Sprint race last year, won by Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
The Eastern Tour wraps up Saturday night in Maryland at Hagerstown Speedway where Jones added another victory last year. It’s only USAC’s third appearance at Hagerstown, where Jack Hewitt won a Silver Crown race in 1986.
Jones and Hines will be out to keep Tony Stewart Racing’s undefeated “Eastern Tour” record intact. Jones and Stenhouse “swept” last year’s events.
