INDIANAPOLIS (August 5, 2008) – Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Levi Jones and Tracy Hines have been on a torrid pace this summer, busily chasing the USAC Racing Triple Crown. This week, there will be no rest for the weary as TSR will embark on a seven-race jaunt that will see Jones and Hines tackle both the dirt and pavement in USAC National Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown Series action.
Kicking off the week will be the Searsboro Telephone USAC Ultimate Challenge Thursday night at Southern Iowa Speedway (SIS) in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Jones, who won the $30,000-to-win event in 2005, leads the USAC National Sprint Car Series into this week’s colossal event. He and the No. 20 Chevy team have earned two series victories in 2008 and will look to add to that total at SIS Tuesday.
Mother Nature won the 2007 Ultimate Challenge event as heavy rain washed away any chances of Sprint car racing at the half-mile dirt oval. Jones finished 11th on Aug. 8, 2006, which marked the last time the event was contested. Hines, his TSR teammate, earned a 12th-place finish at SIS in his last appearance at the facility on Aug. 12, 2003. Hines enters this week ranked third in the USAC Sprint Series standings.
Chasing his first-ever USAC National Midget Car Series title this season, Hines is currently ranked second in the championship standings. While still chasing his first USAC Midget Series victory of the year behind the wheel of the No. 21 Chevy entry, Hines has earned two USAC Sprint Series victories. He’ll look to put Chevy in the winner’s circle multiple times this week while he and Jones take part in the five-race USAC Indiana Midget Week Series.
Jones, Hines and the TSR teams will make an overnight drive from SIS on Tuesday night to Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway for the first of five USAC Midget Series events on tap for the week on Wednesday. From Gas City, they’ll move on to Union County Speedway in Liberty, Ind., for Thursday night’s race. Friday, the TSR team will roll into Bloomington (Ind.) Speedway for the third leg of the mini-series. Saturday will see the USAC Midget Series head to the Ohio/Kentucky border for a stop at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. Sunday’s USAC Indiana Midget Week finale will see the series stop at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway to crown the champion.
Prior to wrapping up USAC Indiana Midget Week at Kokomo on Sunday, Jones, Hines and half of the TSR team will fly to Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, for a USAC K&N Silver Crown Series event. Jones is currently ranked second in the championship standings, only 23 points behind current leader Jerry Coons, Jr. Hines is ranked fifth in the USAC Silver Crown Series points chase and trails USAC Midget Series leader Bobby East by 49 markers. Jones is ranked seventh in the USAC Midget Series championship.
