NEXT ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPRINT MAY 26; HELBERG EXTENDS LEAD WITH SALT LAKE CITY VICTORY
|
MAY 12, 2008 --- JoJo Helberg of Rohnert Park, Calif. extended his Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car point lead Saturday night, winning the 40-lap feature at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. Helberg has a 10-point lead over runner-up and defending series champion Ryan Burdett entering the May 26 “Young Chevrolet 100” race at the 3/8-mile paved oval.
Helberg was running second on the white-flag lap when Mel Andrus’ engine expired in front of leader Burdett, resulting in Burdett’s spin. Helberg then paced the final two laps to beat Rick Pardee, Jeff Bergener, Burdett and Branson Burdett. Ryan was the fastest qualifier.
Helberg piloted the ADTS/Barrats Welding Hansen/Chevy to the win, his first in USAC competition.
