JULY 21, 2008 --- Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. and Levi Jones of Avon, Ind.
hope to keep Tony Stewart Racing atop the K & N USAC Silver Crown point
standings following this week’s ambitious Silver Crown slate in Indiana.
Stewart is attempting to become the first car owner to “sweep” all three
USAC National championships in the same season. He currently leads all three.
Hines is the leader in the Silver Crown driver standings, while Jones sits
third, 18 back going into this week’s races at Terre Haute and Indianapolis.
Jerry Coons Jr. is between them, 13 back of the leader.
The First Financial Bank “Sumar Classic 100” unfolds Wednesday night at
the Terre Haute Action Track and the “J.D. Byrider 100” presented by
TourHendricksCounty.com occurs Thursday night at O’Reilly Raceway Park at
Indianapolis. The 100- lappers mark only the third time that back-to-back
dirt/pavement Silver Crown races have been held on successive days.
Bobby East is the defending champion at ORP and Bud Kaeding will defend his
2006 Terre Haute victory after last year’s “Sumar Classic 100” fell victim
to rain.
Josh Wise set the existing 1-lap track qualifying mark at Terre Haute in 2005
at 20.139 seconds, while Jason Leffler holds the 1-lap ORP qualifying record of
20.298 second set in 2000.
