(APRIL 8, 2008, PERRIS, CA) The best West Coast dirt tracking racing will return to Don Kazarian's famous Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, April 12th, when Temecula Valley Pipe & Supply presents the USAC/CRA Sprint Cars on 1930s and 40s night. Any fan born in the 1930s or 40s that shows a valid id at the ticket window will get in for just $5.00. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00.
The last two USAC/CRA main event winners at The PAS, Temecula, California's Mike Spencer and "Showtime" Danny Sheridan of Santa Maria, California, will both be in action on Saturday. Spencer scored his first USAC/CRA win the season when the series last appeared at the track on March 29th while Sheridan did likewise on March 8th. Spencer's victory two weeks ago saw him take the point lead away from season long leader Cory Kruseman of Ventura, California. The 26 year-old engineering graduate from Cal Poly Pomona edged Kruseman in a thrilling duel over the last ten laps in the main event two weeks ago. Many insiders called it one of the greatest races in the track's 13-season history. Heading into this Saturday's race, Spencer has five-point advantage over Kruseman in the championship standings. Sheridan currently sits sixth.
Spencer and Sheridan, a 33-year old employee of Boeing, both took advantage of their week off from USAC/CRA racing last Saturday to compete at Jim Naylor's Ventura Raceway. Spencer finished eighth in the USAC Western Midget main event, while Sheridan placed second in the VRA main event behind Ojai, California's Troy Rutherford.
The show at Ventura was crowded with other USAC/CRA regulars. "Hollywood" Luis Espinoza, driver of the famous Moose Racing #92 at The PAS, took third in the VRA main event. Josh Ford of Camarillo, California won Western Midget main over teenage sensation Nick Faas of Huntington Beach, California. Kruseman finished fourth in the same event. In the Ford Focus Midget main Garrett Hansen of Manhattan Beach, California and Austin Mero of Kingsburg, California finished second and fourth at the picturesque ocean side oval. All are expected to be in action this Saturday night at The PAS.
Saturday's open wheel clash on the clay will include qualifying, ten lap heat races, a 12-lap B main event and a clay slingin', slide job throwin' 30-lap A main event. And, for the kids, there will be a Big Wheel heat race during one of the breaks in the action and, of course, the popular PAS Dance Contest at intermission.
