NCMA Sprints - Altamont Raceway Park
(Tracy, CA - October 4, 2008) Pat Ariaz finished the 2008 season by winning the last race at Altamont Raceway Park today. Ariaz and David Goodwill split the season by winning four races each and today’s run was no different than all season as they vied for the checkered flag. The exception was Gary Koster, Ed Amador, and Rob Hammond, who each took a win this year.
Napa’s Goodwill set quick time and Manteca’s Ariaz was right behind him. Jeff Burrows another Manteca racer was third fast, with Rob Hammond fourth and David Burchett, this year’s Rookie candidate, fifth quick.
Heats were run, Ariaz started on the inside back row and ended in the front after a hot ten laps. Jeff Burrows stepped right up to second and Goodwill held down third, coming from the outside lane next to Ariaz.
Burt Siverling and Denny Burrell brought the sprints to the green flag, last week’s winner Morgan Hill’s Rob Hammond went right to the front and held the lead with Steve Amador and dad, Ed right behind him. Ariaz and Goodwill were running fourth and fifth. E. Amador had a problem and pulled to a stop, after being looked over he was deemed “ok” and they took off racing again.
This put E. Amador to the back and not only were Ariaz and Goodwill going at it, E. Amador was passing everything in his path. He looked like the hot rod to beat tonight, while son Steve had to exit the track for a vibration. Mid point, Goodwill got around Ariaz and looked like he would have his win. After the white flag was thrown, Burrell holding a good line on the back stretch was passed on the outside by Ariaz and on the inside by Goodwill with Ariaz coming out ahead and taking the win. This had to be racing at its finest, and who can wait for the next season to start?!
Today’s race had several sponsors, Alum-line Trailers, E. Amador. Burrell, D. Goodwill, R. Hammond, and B. Siverling all donating to make a nice year end win.
