David Goodwill is Hot at Altamont
By Sharyn Bragg

NCMA Sprints - Altamont Raceway Park
Tracy, CA - August 23, 2008

David Goodwill won his third pavement race at Altamont Raceway Park today adding another notch in his points’ belt. Goodwill continues a quest to be overall champion for 2008 and it’s looking good.

Pat Ariaz set fast time, with Goodwill only three-one hundredths slower, and the challenge was on. Jeff Burrows was having problems and still qualified third quick. Ed Amador was fourth fast and Rob Hammond rounded out the top five.

Burt Siverling and Hammond brought the sprints to the green flag, Hammond jumped out there and made the first lap all his own. Amador was right behind him, running second. Goodwill and Ariaz started moving through the pack, Goodwill going in deep and pulled up to second, Ariaz made it to fourth with Amador in between. A few more go-rounds and Goodwill was out in clean air, Hammond still holding onto second but Ariaz was giving him a run and managed to take second about the halfway point in the twenty-five lap Main Event. Meanwhile, Amador was being pursued by Burrows with a vengeance and every lap he would get so close Amador could smell him! Amador managed to keep him at bay, but Burrows was right there after finding a problem during the day and still making a great run. Napa’s driving DDS, Goodwill finished first as previously stated, Arias the Manteca Ag Teacher, whose students just achieved some great awards at the CA State Fair, was second. Morgan Hill’s hot rod, Rob Hammond was third. The Racing Farmer from Modesto, Ed Amador was fourth and Jeff Burrows also of Manteca was fifth. Rookie of the year contender, David Burchett started the day with mechanical problems that were beyond repair at the track, but plans to be back by the next race. The NCMA Sprints-Pavement Division will be off for a couple of weeks, but will race at All American Speedway, Roseville on Saturday, September 13th. All racers are looking forward to this great evening, as they will follow a great day of vintage racing from the West Capitol Speedway Alumni Association celebrating the All American Vintage Classic. The day will include static car entries, a barbeque, introduction of hall of fame inductees for 2008, and some vintage racing that will put you on the edge of your seat. Please see WESTCAPITOLRACEWAY.COM or call 707-254-8775 for more information and BBQ tickets. Also check the All American Speedway web site for tickets and time.

NCMA Sprints will take the Labor Day weekend off to spend time with family and friends but return to the dirt at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday, September 6th. The dirt division of NCMA is looking towards a great evening of Select Series Racing in their final dirt race for 2008. Several weeks ago, 26 non-wing, 360 sprints ran the dirt and it was a totally terrific night of speed on the dirt. Come and Check it out!!
