Fresno, Ca – April 25th
and 26th, 2008…Peter Murphy had a busy weekend, as he raced Friday
night in the Tarlton & Son, Inc. non-wing Sprint car with the Bandit Sprint
cars at Hanford. Then he went off to Tulare on Saturday night, to race the
Eberhardt Motorsports #4 winged Sprint car at Tulare's Golden State Challenge
Series race.
Tommy Tartlon, AKA,
"Double-T," who has been fast of late, would also be running at
Tulare, in the Paul Baines, Blaine Steele wrenched #21 Maxim.
Friday night at Hanford, Peter
started his evening by posting the 2nd fastest lap on the evening.
With heat race action up next, Murphy tightened his belts, and slid into his 3rd
row outside starting spot.
At the drop of the green flag,
Peter shuffled back, then patiently moved through the field, eventually
finishing 3rd in the 10-lapper.
The 30-lap main event was next, and
you could see the intensity and fire in his eyes from the packed grandstands, as
The Tarlton & Son, Inc., Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Kaeding
Performance, Ridgeline Framing, Sharp Insurance, VMAC, BR Motorsports, Fresno
First Bank, Pro Signs, #21 Maxim was ready for battle and glistening on the
front straightaway.
When the green flag came out, Peter
avoided disaster as cars were shooting everywhere trying to avoid crashing into
one another. Thankfully, he was able to charge though it.
When the green flag racing resumed,
Peter was putting the Shark power through its paces. Waiting for the right time
to start his attack, Peter kept the leaders in his sights. Then, on a lap-17, a
car trying to make an inside move, made contact with the 4th place
running Murphy.
The Matt & Glass sponsored #21,
was forced to start at the rear of the field. When the yellow was replaced by
the green flag, Peter was magnificently working his way back up to the front.
With a handful of laps remaining,
Peter found himself in the 2nd spot! The crowd was on their feet, as
Murphy unbelievably was on the race leaders' tail and charging. He has his
elbows up so high; they were bouncing off of the bottom of the roll cage! Here
he comes! Peter went to the outside to try and take the lead, unfortunately he
and the race leader came together, and the #21 sat broken in the 4th
turn ending the exciting run.

The following day, we made the tow
to Tulare's fast high-banked 3/8-mile speedway to race with the Golden State
Challenge Series.
Peter showed his diversity as an
"all around," race car driver, by running a lighter car that has more
horsepower, and with a wing bolted on top.
In hot laps, Murphy got himself
comfortable in the Rick Eberhardt owned #4 Maxim. Then, after some changes made
by Jason Wheelock, it was heat race time.
Murphy lead over half of heat #3,
and then a nice battle broke out with "Super" Blake Robertson. Coming
out of turn #4, Peter pointed the front end to the heavens, and stayed on it,
still racing side-by-side with Blake, and both kept charging down the front
straightaway, and into turn-1. A few quick laps later, Peter crossed the line in
2nd, which put us in the 30-lap main event.
When Willie Williams unfurled the
green flag, Peter got a fantastic start from his 16th starting spot.
By lap-3 he quickly moved the Ridgeline Framing, Tarlton & Son, Inc., Elite
Powder Coating, Sharp Insurance, VMAC, Pro Signs, Matt & Glass #4 to the 12th
spot. Peter was running hard, putting the car up by the fence, and eventually
finishing in the 10th spot.
"We're not where we want to be
right now." Peter referring to his 10th place finish.
"We're just going to have to work harder. Although we didn't achieve the
results that we wanted, I'm very fortunate to have good sponsors and good people
behind me."
Tommy Tarlton again showed speed in
the Tarlton & Son, Inc. #21 Maxim last Saturday. He blasted around the
speedway turning a 13.435, which was good enough for 9th quick.
"Double-T" took full
advantage of his 4th place starting spot in his heat, where he
transferred out of his heat, which put him in the all important 6-lap dash. The
dash sets up the first 4-rows for the main event, so Tommy let it all hang out
for 6-quick ones, and finished a strong 5th.

From his 5th starting
spot in the 30-lapper, Tommy guided the #21, and was flying around the hooked up
track. Tommy was making the hard hitting Shark motor beg for mercy, but he was
relentless as he was clicking off laps at a blistering pace.
After the 30-lap speed fest was
complete, Tommy did a fantastic job by bringing the car home in the 4th
position.
"Oh man, I'm having a
blast!" Tommy commented after the race. "Everyone on this team works
real hard, and I'm going to keep trying to win one of the things."
-Up Next!
Peter will be in action again this
Saturday night at Santa Maria Speedway, where he will be looking to stretch out
his point lead.
Tommy will be back in action May 9th
at Ocean Speedway for the 360 Wright One Construction Series. He garnered a 5th
place finish in his last visit there.
