Steve Irwin sweeps MTS weekend |

Thursday, August 7th the MTS series made its annual appearance at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds. Steve Irwin starting from the outside front row took the lead in the first turn. Pole sitter Mike Astrauskas would try to mount a challenge but had to hold off a fast Mike Galadja to stay in the 2nd position. Gregg Dalman was also in the mix until lap 9 where he would spin and have to tag the tail. Gregg made a great comeback to end up finishing 7th in the main. Steve led from start to finish with Astrauskas, Galadja, John Lowe and Chad Delagrange rounding out the top 5. Steve Irwin and John Lowe won Heat races. Mark Strpko Friday August 8th MTS traveled north to Cherry Speedway for round 2. Point leader Mike Galadja started from the pole position but quickly lost the lead to Joe Bares who started 4th. Steve Irwin looked fast again making daring moves from the 6th position up to 2nd in 2 laps. By lap 5 there was a three-way battle between Bares, Irwin and Dalman. Bad news struck Dalman again after he spun in turn 4 and had to go to the tail. On the restart from the Dalman spin, Irwin looked to make a move and passed Bares for the lead with slight contact. Irwin held the lead the rest of the way with Bares, Gary Hayward, Mike Galadja and Mike Astrauskas rounding the top five.
