AUGUST 2, 2008 --- For the first time in several seasons, the non wing sprint cars returned to the ½ mile I-96 Speedway on Saturday night. The Michigan Traditional Sprint Series made their only appearance of the year on a beautiful evening and Gregg Dalman drove to victory in the 20 lap feature. Dalman was followed by points leader Mike Galajda, Tim Champlin, Justin Martin and Nick Landon.
Dalman lined up in the third starting spot for the feature and before the initial lap was completed he would get by the front row cars of Tim Evilsizer and Tim Champlin. With a clear track the #49 of Dalman began to stretch out his lead and by lap five had gained half a straight lead over Champlin and the fast closing Galadja. Meanwhile Tim Evilsizer, Nick Landon , Ohio’s Kyle Simon and St Thomas, Ont. native Justin Martin were engaged in a wild battle of their own for 4th through 7th.
On the ninth circuit the yellow appeared as Landon spun in turn two and collected Simon who suffered damage to his mount and retired to the pits. Landon restarted at the rear of the field. This wiped out Dalman’s big lead and at the drop of green Galadja made a bold pass to take over 2nd from Champlin. Galadja was on Dalman’s bumper but could not get by and once again the yellow #49 pulled out to a commanding lead.
Meanwhile Tim Evilsizer was making daring passes flirting with wall several times on the frontstrecth. On lap 15 Justin Martin moved into fourth and Landon had driven back up to fifth and at the checkers it was Dalman, Galadja, Champlin, Martin and Landon.
Gregg Dalman won the first heat race while Justin Martin captured heat20number two.
