(JANUARY
2, 2008) –
Manzanita Speedway has issued its 2008 schedule and their short hiatus ends February 9 with the running of the U-Pull-It 150 lap Bomber Enduro. As usual, the track features racing from February to November 22 with 14 different divisions on the schedule.
Manzanita will have a new look in ‘08 as the crews have been busy refurbishing the facility. Fans will immediately notice the new, well stocked concession stands and the new aluminum bleachers that have replaced the wooden stands that have been in use for 57 years.
The track wastes no time in staging one of the major races of the year early on their schedule with the 2nd Annual "Copper on Dirt" hitting the half mile track February 15-16. The format has USAC Silver Crown, USAC Midgets and USAC/CRA sprint cars. Unheralded Ricky Stenhouse won both the sprint car and silver crown race in the Saturday night finale last year while Tracy Hines swept the card Friday night.
The schedule has the World of Outlaws on March 1st and the ASCS sprint cars open their season with the Tribute to Jimmy Blanton on March 8. The ASCS has a total of 21 races including the ASCS Winged Western World as well as the ASCS Non-Winged races. The ASCS will run two 40 lap races. The first will be the Wayne Weiler Salute to Indy May 24th and the Firecracker 40 July 4. The next night they will run the Lealand Legacy the next night on the Half mile track.
The USAC/CRA sprints have only three dates in addition to the Copper on Dirt. They will visit Manzy on March 15th and again in the Hall of Fame Vintage Classic September 20 and return for the Checker Auto Parts/Budweiser/Parker Store Western World Championships November 6-8.
Late Models return to a place on the schedule with five races which includes a two night run in the Nationals November 14-15.
The Barnett Harley Davidson Dirt Modifieds have a full schedule with 17 dates including their Nationals. The dirt mods will race on the half mile track four times.
Also included on the schedule are Factory Stocks, Bombers and Dwarf Cars along with Modlites and Sport Modifieds and lady stocks which will share billings on most Friday nights.
Mini sprint have mostly Saturday night races and the super stocks will be on the half mile track three times in the touring series and will be on the one third mile oval two other times. Midgets will be on the one third mile track as a companion show with the sprint cars five times.
The track will be dark on two weekends. The first vacancy on the schedule will be April 11-12 when NASCAR races at night and again the track takes a weeks vacation August 15-16.
