VRA Recognizes Kruseman School Drivers
|
Ventura, CA (February 11, 2008) – Drivers of the Cory Kruseman Sprint Car & Midget Driving School's "Arrive & Drive" program were honored this past Saturday night at the Ventura Raceway Association's annual awards banquet.
In the VRA 360 Sprint Car division, first year driver 16-year old Johnathon Henry of Stockton, CA won two main events on his way to capturing the 2007 Rookie of the Year honors and a 7th place finish in the 2007 championship points standings. Henry's driving style earned him both the Tom Toutz Hard Charger Award and the Thunderhead Rising Star Award.
Gil Mahoney of La Crescenta, CA was named the 2007 Rookie of the Year in the VRA Senior 360 Sprint Car division for drivers aged 45 and over. Mahoney competed in 12 of the 13 events in 2007 and earned a 10th place finish in the championship points standings.
16-year old Austin Mero of Kingsburg, CA was crowned the 2007 Jr. Ford Focus Champion as well as the Rookie of the Year. Mero translated 3main events wins and consistency into the 2007 series crown.
Camarillo's (CA) Brent Underwood finished 4th in the championship point standings for the Sport Compact car division earning himself the 2007 Rookie of the Year award. Underwood is a part-time employee and crew member for Kruseman's school.
"2007 was a very good year for our program and I'm really proud of all our drivers. These four driving school graduates have really shown that they can participate at a competitive level" stated school proprietor Cory Kruseman.
