JUNE 2, 2008 --- Defending USAC/CRA Sprint Car Champion Cory Kruseman hopes to take another step toward a repeat championship Saturday night when the series resumes at its “home” track, the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
The Ventura, Calif. driver stands 22 points ahead of Mike Spencer and is eyeing his 22nd career series feature win. His 21 wins rank second to Damion Gardner’s 32 and all three of his wins have come at The PAS.
Drivers he’ll have to contend with include, Spencer, who also owns a 2008 Perris victory, plus 2008 Perris race winners Danny Sheridan and Johnny Rodriguez. Sheridan, who is fifth in the series standings, is the most recent Perris winner and has a pair of wins at the track this season.
Blake Miller, third inn the current points, also owns a 2008 win at Las Vegas and trails Kruseman by 69 points going into Saturday night’s race, the 88th for USAC Sprint cars at The PAS. Gardner remains the track’s leading USAC winner with 19 career wins, while Kruseman has 13.
