(Chico, CA 6-2-08)...After a much needed weekend off racing resumes this Friday night, June 6, at the Silver Dollar Speedway. It marks point race number 10 during the Feather Falls Casino championship point series. Three divisions return to action with the 410 winged sprint cars, street stocks and wingless sprints. For the second time this season Ashley Furniture will sponsor the night and kick in the added bonus money to the sprint car division. The winner of the 25-lap 410 winged sprint car main event will pay $2,000 to win. Also, fans will get a chance to win a free gift certificate towards a bed at Ashley Furniture during a raffle drawing before the main events. ManCamp Motorsports has donated other prizes for young children to win during this night of racing.
Front grandstand gate will open at 6 pm. Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm. Adult general admission is $11.00. Seniors and Juniors are $9.00 and children are $5.00. The sprint cars will qualify followed by all three divisions racing heats and main events.
Auburn's Andy Forsberg continues to lead the 410 sprint car point battle. While he has been the leader most of the season, Forsberg has been shadowed by fellow former champion of the speedway Sean Becker. Both of these champions continue to try and push each other to the limit. Forsberg has a mere 11-point lead over Becker for the championship. Tied for the third spot is veteran Chico driver Jonathan Allard and second year sensation Mason Moore of Princeton. Both have tallied top five finishes in combination with a single win. Sacramento driver Willie Croft rounds out the top five. Croft has earned two qualifying awards this year and is only second to Allard's three.
Keith Bloom Jr. continues to lead the wingless point standings. Bloom Jr. has won the last two main events of series and has stretched his point lead over rival Taylor Simas by 30-points. Mason Myers continues to sit in the third spot while Paradise driver Justin Funkhouser is fourth. Two-time main event winner Jimmy Pettit is fifth. Bloom Jr. is the only driver to finish in the top ten of all the main events ran this year. So far he is 10 for 10 when it comes to that stat. The wingless division is led by young eager drivers but solidified with a strong presence of veteran leadership.
The street stock division continues to impress us this year. With large car counts and exciting racing this this year, this division have quickly rebounded into a featured racing series. Former champion Scott Rogers leads the charge but is closely followed by Silver Dollar fan favorite Heather Bartlett. Just eight points separate the top two. Two-time track champion Jeff Olschowka continues to lurk in the third spot. Olschowka has been victimized by bad luck this season but is only 20-points behind. Jake Vantol and Joe Longmire round out the top five. These two are only separated by six-points.
