20TH ANNUAL SHELDON KINSER MEMORIAL
SAFETY—KLEEN SPRINT CARS $3000 TO WIN PLUS LAP PRIZE MONEY
|
BLOOMINGTON, IN (June 8, 2008) – No place is more appropriate for a memorial to Sheldon Kinser than the famous red clay oval that is Bloomington Speedway. Most fans remember Sheldon for the daring that he displayed on race tracks from coast to coast. He raced on tracks from quarter mile bull rings in sprints and midgets to mile dirt ovals in USAC champ dirt cars (now Silver Crown) to the superspeedways where he competed with the best in champ cars.
The Sheldon Kinser Memorial has become what a promoter would like an event to be – an event that has the reputation necessary to make it a mandatory entry on any driver’s win list. There are beginning to be drivers who can’t remember watching Sheldon Kinser race; but it would be hard to imagine a driver who doesn’t know what Sheldon Kinser meant to this sport. Sheldon won three USAC sprint car championships and 37 USAC features in his spectacular career. In addition, he had 5 USAC Silver Crown victories and many strong runs in Indy cars. Even as he battled for his life against cancer, he would wrap a bandanna over the hole in his throat and roar through clouds of dust in pursuit of yet another victory. Next to “grit” in the dictionary we should find two words – Sheldon Kinser.
Of course, Kevin Briscoe cherishes his previous Sheldon Kinser Memorial trophies; but he’d certainly like to add another to the two that he already has. Last year’s Sheldon Kinser Memorial winner, Jon Stanbrough, would love to land a second win. And, based on his performance over the past three seasons, we would have to count Jon as the pre-race favorite. It won’t hurt his chances any that he won the feature last Friday night. The rest of the top ten in last season’s race were Brady Short, Chad Boat, Daron Clayton, Jesse Hockett, Shane Cottle, Mat Neely, Danny Holtsclaw, Critter Malone, and Jared Fox It is a pretty safe bet that most of them feel they have a shot at finding victory lane in this year’s race. Still more racers know that they could have finished well last year and believe that they can win this year.
In addition to the sprints, the O’Neal Wood Products open wheel modifieds and the Tire & Wheel Centers super stocks will also be in competition that night. The modifieds will be running for $700 to win with proper decals; and the super stocks will be running for $600 to win with proper decals.
Don’t miss this great race. General Admission is only $15 (Kids 12 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.) – Pit admission is only $30. Coolers are allowed; but glass containers are prohibited.
Pit gates open at 4:30 PM; and the grandstand opens at 5:30 PM. Hot Laps begin at 6:30 PM; and racing begins at 7:30 PM. BE THERE!
