Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 2, 2008) – Jeremy Sherman continues his chase for a second consecutive Discount Tire Co. American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region championship when the series returns to action atop Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval in Phoenix, AZ, this Saturday night.
But with nine of 30 scheduled ASCS Canyon Region events already in the books, Charles Davis, Jr., is leaving Sherman little margin for error as just 28 markers separate the lead duo in the title chase.
Sherman and Davis have matched each other in the win column, with each driver reaching victory lane on three occasions thus far in 2008. Casey Shuman has nabbed a pair of wins as well, with R.J. Johnson also posting an ASCS Canyon Region win.
With Sherman and Davis trying to separate themselves from the pack, Johnson enters Saturday night's card ranked third, 94 points off of Sherman's pace. Nathan High holds fourth, with Mike Martin rounding out the current top five.
Josh Pelkey enters Saturday's event ranked sixth, with the balance of the current top ten including Jeremy Reagles, Mike Leslie, Andrew Reinbold and Thomas Ogle.
Certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, MPD Race Products sponsoring heat race two, Winters Performance sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Trophy Dash, while Sunoco will also award a certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year. Parker Store sponsors the Roll for Inversion.
