Sherman Shoots for Two ASCS Canyon Wins in a Row Saturday at Manzy |

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (March 17, 2008) – Night number two of the 2008 season for the Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region unfolds this Saturday night as the series takes to Manzanita Speedway's 1/3-mile clay oval in Phoenix, AZ. Defending series champion Jeremy Sherman of Surprise, AZ, kicked the 2008 campaign precisely the same way he began last year's championship effort; with a win in the recent season opener. And he'll try to make it two wins in a row to open the season after posting a dozen ASCS Canyon Region wins in 2007. "The Shermanator" raced from seventh to win the series season opener on Saturday night, March 8, to break out to an early lead as he opens his title defense aboard Fred Bryan's Wesmar-powered F&E Development No. 77 Maxim. Sherman leads the way into Saturday's card with the early points lead over Missouri's Jesse Hockett, with R.J. Johnson (Phoenix), Nathan High (Goodyear) and Brian Camarillo (Ventura, CA) rounding out the current top five. The balance of the current top ten in Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region points includes Chris Bonneau, Bob Ream, Jr., Justin Fisher, Shon Deskins and Thomas Ogle. Thirty-two entries took part in the March 8 season opener with a similar field expected for Saturday night's action. Certificates will be awarded to each of the heat race winners, with Racing Optics sponsoring heat race one, MPD Race Products sponsoring heat race two, Winters Performance sponsoring heat race three and Sunoco sponsoring heat race four. Arizona Race Mart sponsors the Trophy Dash, while Sunoco will also award a certificate to each "B" Main winner in ASCS Canyon Region action this year. Parker Store sponsors the Roll for Inversion. Saturday's Discount Tire Co. ASCS Canyon Region action at Manzanita Speedway is set to go green at 7:00 p.m. Manzanita Speedway is located in Phoenix, AZ, off I-10 Exit 141, then four miles south on 35th Avenue to West Broadway. ASCS Canyon Region brings the best in non-wing Sprint Car racing to Arizona with a full slate of 29 nights of racing in 2008. In addition to events atop both the ½-mile and 1/3-mile ovals at Manzanita Speedway in Phoenix, the series will also be in action at Tucson's USA Race Park and Casa Grande's Central Arizona Raceway over the course of the season.
