September 17, 2007 --- Ryan Kaplan of Chico, Calif. finished second to Tony Hunt in Saturday’s 50-lap race at Madera (Calif.) Speedway and emerged with a 38-point lead over JoJo Helberg and 43-point lead over Hunt in the new Lucas Oil Western Sprint Car standings as a result. The series is slated to conclude November 22 as part of the annual “Turkey Night Grand Prix” events at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.
Hunt caught early leader Helberg on lap 16 and led the rest of Saturday’s Madera USAC/CASA feature in his Thompson Toyota Bailey/Chevy. Kaplan, the fastest qualifier, was second ahead of Helberg, Shauna Hogg and Bradley Galedrige. Hogg led the opening lap before yielding to Helberg.
Hunt’s victory was his second of the season, his first also coming at the Madera oval.
