August 27, 2007----The Lucas Oil USAC Western Sprint Car Series and USAC/SLVRA Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series combine this Saturday for another exciting program of racing at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah. A 40-lap feature is on tap and seasonal point championships could hang in the balance.
Three drivers are locked in a tight point race for the Western title, while a former two-time series champion is among several drivers challenging the Rocky Mountain point leader.
Only 12 points separate Ryan Kaplan, Tony Hunt and JoJo Helberg in the battle for the Western championship. Kaplan’s finishes at Salt Lake City this year have been fifth and eighth, while runnerup Tony Hunt also has a fifth and eighth in the two RMR events. JoJo Helberg is third in the standings and scored a second in the last Western race at RMR and won the August 12 Rocky Mountain feature there.
Ryan Burdett’s Rocky Mountain lead over two-time king Jim Waters stands at only 62, but Jim Campbell and Rick Pardee are close behind. Burdett has two wins, a second and two thirds in eight RMR starts this season!
Drivers Kody Swanson and Jimmy Wysong have been the winners so far this year in the “combo” features at RMR. Wysong came out of retirement to win the most recent and could be among favorites again should he compete.
