August 20, 2007---- The battle for the 2007 Lucas Oil Western Sprint Car championship continues September 1 at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah and three drivers remain locked in points, with only 12 separating the trio.
Ryan Kaplan of Chico, Calif. remained at the top of the standings after his sensational victory in last Saturday’s 50-lap USAC/CASA co-sanctioned race at Altamont Motorsports Park in Tracy, Calif. Kaplan caught Kody Swanson on lap 48 and led the final three circuits to post a close win in his K & N Filters/Platinum Powder Coating Eagle. Tony Hunt finished second ahead of Swanson, JoJo Helberg and Greg Anderson.
Nick Rescino Jr. led the first eight laps before Swanson raced to the point and led for the next 39 laps. Hunt’s finish left him only eight points behind Kaplan in the new standings, with Helberg slipping to third, only four behind Hunt.
