(Oxnard, CA 11/13/07)Ventura Raceway will be presenting its final race in the
2007 season this Saturday night November 17 at 5:30 at its Ventura County
Fairgrounds Facility in Ventura California. We will end our season with a full
program of VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, Dwarf Cars and our kid’s classes. With
four class championships still to be decided, racing will be all out from
opening heat races until the final checkered flag falls.
Troy Rutherford will try to continue his late season domination of the VRA
Sprint Cars as he goes after win number seven. Last weekend he took win number
six. He took the thirty lap feature after a race long battle with Jake Hodges
and Kevin Kierce. Hodges led many laps in the mid portion of the race until
getting together with another car on lap 27. Rutherford then led to the finish
with Kierce in close pursuit. Greg Taylor had a flat tire take him out of the
chase for the win, but his win in heat race number four and eighth place finish
in the feature clinched his first ever VRA Sprint Car Championship. Saturday
night these drivers will all be going all out to see who will be the final
victor in 2007.
VRA Senior Sprints will crown their 2007 champion Saturday night. Danny
Miller currently leads brother Wiley Miller by 40 points, Steve Stasa by 70
points and Bruce Douglass by 85 points. With 260 points available Saturday night
the championship is still wide open. This season has been one of the best ever
in Senior competition as several drivers have improved greatly. This is shown by
the fact that only 490 points separate the top eight in points. First time
winner John Richards will be back this weekend to go for two wins in a row.
VRA Dwarf Cars turned out in large numbers last weekend with twenty cars
racing in the Senior Division and 19 cars racing in the Pros. Ed Niedzwiecki
finally got his first Championship that has eluded him the past two years. He
clinched his championship by finishing 13th in the feature. The win in this race
went to first time feature winner Tom Bellinger. In the Pro Division, point
leader Jim Scribellito took the weekend off and will be here Saturday to try to
clinch his first VRA Championship. With him gone, Brian Saxton returned to
action and took his second win of the season, coming from last to first during
the race.
VRA Kids Classes also competed last weekend with wins going to Tommy
Velasquez on the Piston Class, Devin McKee in the Super Chargers and Christian
Copley in Junior Midgets. Riley Helland’s second place finish in the Super
Charger Class clinched the 2007 season championship in the Super Charger Class.
The championships in the other two divisions are still open and will be claimed
in Saturday’s final race. Going into the final race Saturday, Tommy Velasquez
leads in Pistons by 25 points over Ricky Lewis and Jessica Clark leads by 90
points over Amanda Green.
