(Oxnard, CA, 10/23/2007) This Saturday night October 27, Ventura Raceway will be
holding a special event that all 360 Sprint Car fans will want to attend. On
that night we will present the final race in the 2007 Bandit Grand Slam Series.
We expect that over forty 360 sprint cars from VRA, Bandits and other
sanctioning bodies will bet here to challenge the tight 1/5 mile Ventura Raceway
bullring. VRA series point leader Greg Taylor leads 2007 Bandit Series Champion
Jesse Mack by only two points going into Saturday night’s event. Other drivers
set to challenge for the championship include Josh Ford, Johnathon Henry, Davey
Pombo and Santa Maria winner Greg Porte. Saturday night’s race will bring
together the top 360 sprint car drivers from throughout California to go for the
$2,000 first prize and when the night is done one of these drivers will claim
the prestigious Grand Slam Series Title for 2007.
The last race in the series was held on October 13, at Santa Maria Speedway.
That night VRA drivers had some problems and drivers from the Bandit Series and
SCRA 360’s took the top four positions in the 30 lap feature. Greg Porte took
the hard fought win over Greg Bragg, seventeen year old rising star Justyne
Hamblim and 2007 Bandit Champion Jesse Mack. Clark Templeman III was fifth for
the top VRA finish. Series point leader Greg Taylor finished 6th. In
Saturday’s race at Ventura Raceway VRA drivers should fare better. All our top
VRA competitors are expected to bet here to try to take the top prize.
Along with the Grand Slam race, VRA Dwarf cars and kids classes will race a
full program of races Saturday. In their last race at Santa Maria Speedway, Jeff
Shelton took the win in Pros and Ed Niedzwiecki took the Seniors. Both drivers
are expected to be there Saturday to go for two in a row. A top finish Saturday
night can clinch the Senior championship for Niedzwiecki.
Our VRA Kids classes resume their competition Saturday night with Mini Dwarf
cars and Junior Midgets. Ricky Lewis leads the Piston Class and Riley Helland
leads the Supercharger Class into tonight’s competition. Both are going for
their first VRA Championships. In Junior Midgets, Jessica Clark leads the class
with three races to go in the series for 2007.
Pit gates will open at 12 noon and front gates will open at 3:00pm on
Saturday. Admission prices for this special event is $14.00 for adults, $11.00
for seniors/military/juniors, $7.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under are free.
