Release for Ventura Raceway for 10-20-07

(Oxnard, CA 10/16/2007)Ventura Raceway returns to action with a full program of VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, Sport Compacts, VRA/USAC ford Focus Midgets, VRA Junior Focus and the special Jim Kierce Memorial invitational event for Senior Sprints this Saturday night October 20 at its Ventura County Fairgrounds Facility. With the season winding down all the top drivers and teams will be going all out to put themselves and their cars in the top positions before the season ends in November. As a special event that night a foam helmet will be given out to the first fifty children admitted with an accompanying paid adult admission.
Saturday night our VRA Sprint Car drivers resume their battle to see who will become the 2007 series champion. Currently Greg Taylor leads Kevin Kierce, Dennis Rodriguez, Luis Espinoza and Eric Severson. All these drivers and many more will be here to battle for the win in the 30 lap feature. With only a few races remaining in the season these drivers will be going all out to move up and try to challenge Taylor for the championship.
Danny Miller will lead the Senior Sprint drivers into Saturday’s event. After a win by Bruce Douglass in the last event on October 6, Miller leads Douglass by 50 points. Past champion Wiley Miller trails by 70 points and Steve Stasa is 100 points behind in fourth place. With only 100 points separating these top four fine drivers, the racing and fight for the top spot will be something to se as we wind the down the 2007 season..
Also on tap for Saturday night will be the final race in the VRA/USAC Ford Focus Series and VRA Junior Focus Series for 2007. Nic Faas leads the point’s race and will be going for the track championship tonight in the VRA/USAC portion of the event. He holds a good 245 point lead over Dennis Howell and Ricky Kirkbride as he enters the race tonight. In VRA Junior Focus competition, Austin Mero holds a narrow 45 point lead over Austin Smith.
VRA Sport Compacts are also on the card Saturday night. Joel Chavez takes a 320 point lead over David Peterson into this event. If he ends the night with a lead of 260 or more points he will clinch his first VRA Championship.
The final event for Saturday night will be the second annual Jim Kierce Memorial Super Senior Invitational Race for Senior Sprint drivers. Last years the win went to Dale Harwood. Saturday drivers will be going for the honor of taking the 2007 title in this race that honors Kevin Kierce’s father Jim, who was a staunch supporter of sprint car racing throughout his life.
Pit gates open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:30pm. Racing will get under way at 5:30pm. Admission for this event is $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for seniors/military/juniors, $5.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under are free.
