(Oxnard, CA, 10-1-2007) This Saturday night October 6, at 5:30pm racing fans
will witness the third and final visit, in the 2007 season, of the mighty
USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Cars
to Ventura Raceway’s 1/5 mile clay oval located just off the 101 freeway in
Ventura, CA.
The USAC/CRA Sprint Cars are the fastest
cars that race at Ventura Raceway. Along with the USAC/CRA
Sprints, VRA Senior Sprints will also run a full program of racing featuring our
over 45 year old sprint car stars. The final event tonight will be the 17th
edition of the WAGSDASH, a special race for sprint cars.
USAC/CRA Sprints are 800 hp, 410 cubic inch, open wheeled cars that can hit
speeds of over 80mph as they race around Ventura’s oval. Led by point leader
Tony Jones, Mike Spencer, David Cardey, Ricky Gaunt, Danny Sheridan, Cory
Kruseman, Rip Williams, Blake Miller, Josh Ford,
Troy Rutherford, Jimmy Crawford, Scotty Weir and a host of other outstanding
drivers this racing group always puts on some of the best and most competitive
racing seen at Ventura.
The program will include qualifying sessions, heat races, a semi main and a
30 lap feature event that is sure to keep all the fans in attendance on the edge
of their seats. Last week at Perris Auto
Speedway, Rip Williams took the win. He will be at Ventura Saturday night to try
to take another win in this competitive series.
In USAC/CRA’s last appearance on September 8, several VRA drivers did very
well. It will be interesting to see if any of our VRA 360 stars come out
Saturday night to challenge the USAC stars this visit. On the last visit of
these powerful racers, Ventura favorite Cory Kruseman took the win in a hard
fought victory over Danny Sheridan and David Cardey.
Also on the card Saturday night is the VRA Senior Sprints. These 360 Sprint
Cars are slightly less powerful than the 410’s but their racing is often just
as competitive. The other major difference between the two groups racing tonight
is the fact that the Seniors are all over 45 years of age. Point leader Danny
Miller leads Steve Stasa, Wiley Miller and the other Seniors into tonight’s
competition. Others scheduled to compete are Bob Alderman, Ron Bach, Bruce
Douglass, Tim Moon and a host of others. These racers will compete in a full
program of heat races and a 20 lap feature. On their last appearance here two
weeks ago Wiley Miller defeated his brother Danny Miller to take the win.
The final event for this Saturday will be the 17th running of the WAGSDASH
for Sprint Cars. This special event is for drivers and teams who have worked
hard all year long, but may not have had the best of luck in their competition.
Ken Wagner always provides the fans with a great race and a special purse for
these drivers. This race will be a 15-20 lap race run at the end of the night.
Pit gates will open at 11:00am this weekend so the team can get set up early
and take part in the special events that are a part of the WAGSDASH festivities
that includes a chili feed, auction of racing memorabilia and other special
events to be determined. Front gates are open early so fans can also
participate. At 3:00pm all fans not having pit passes will be asked to clear the
area and purchase their race admissions.
Admission prices for this special event are $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for
seniors/military/juniors, $7.00 for kids 7-12 and kids 6 and under are free. For
more information, please call Ventura Raceway at 805-985-5433 m-f, 8-5.
